a floating silver pillow becomes a cloud (2016-ongoing)
Invested in the work of José Esteban Muñoz, most specifically Cruising Utopia: The Then and There of Queer Futurity, this collage series places space babes into a wish-landscape that is distinctly utopian and distinctly queer. Archival imagery was resurged by sifting through the depths of Pinterest and Tumblr, with search terms under the category of “bad vintage lesbian porn.” By removing women's bodies from their original and awkward poses in porno flicks and magazines—where they are performing queerness for a dude-determined hetero audience—and re-staging them into visions of queertopic futurisms, I am attempting to reclaim queer femme sexualities through an act of re-storying. By reaching into the vintage past with a contemporary and shared critical dissatisfaction with the presentation of queer femmes on the internet, this collage series offers and allows for a vastness of collective potentiality. a floating silver pillow becomes a cloud is not exclusively about sexuality, but certainly embraces collective modes of being as explored through love, sex, and relationally that allows us entry to a utopian path.
